The ICEHOUSE Fast Pitch competition returns for its second year [Refer to my review of last year’s comp]. Like last year the winner will walk away with 3 months worth of ICEHOUSE incubation time in addition to a series of other prizes. 2008 winner Todd Wackrow of Pocket Vouchers [http://www.pocketvouchers.com/] has certainly made use of his winnings. Bright Mind Labs, a Spark 40K runner-up last year, also did well picking up the ‘Best Presentation Skills’ award. On that note, hopefully we can get all of the 2009 Spark 100K Qualifiers to enter the competition.
I came across a interesting post by Lance Wiggs who comments on the value of the competition prizes from a controversial but interesting view.
Can you sell your idea in 60 seconds?
The Icehouse business growth centre has kicked off its Fast Pitch 2009 competition for entrepreneurs.
It is the real life Dragon’s Den business pitch competition which invites people to put their business ideas to a panel of judges and includes pre-finals seminars and coaching for all entrants from some top business pitch and investment advisers.
The competition, which was a huge success in 2008 also offers prizes including three months in the ICE Accelerator business incubator for the winner.
The Icehouse CEO Andy Hamilton says “It is a great opportunity for budding business people to get advice from business leaders and for finalists to pitch their ideas in front of an audience and a panel of judges.”
FAST Pitch is a “must do” for start-ups and entrepreneurs who will receive expert advice on business pitching, learning what investors look for in business and how pitching has helped other businesses grow rapidly.
Two preliminary seminar/practice sessions on the 8th and 15th October and the final live pitch night takes place on Tuesday 27th October.
The 10 finalists of FAST Pitch will compete for the main prize and other categories including: Best Intellectual Property Idea, Best Funding Opportunity for Investors, Best Presentation Skills and People’s Choice award.
The over winner will receive a prize package which includes three months incubation in the ICE Accelerator plus a Microsoft computer and software package.
Other prizes include:
- Ernst & Young’s business consultation package
- NZTE’s Escalator Investment Ready Consulting Services
- Telecom T-Stick
- HP 1GB USB Sticks
- Microsoft’s suite business software package
