As it turns out my eminent departure to San Francisco in August is actually quite good timing. As you may be well aware of, the 34th America’s Cup regatta is underway in San Francisco. And given New Zealand has a central presence in this high profile event it’s a great opportunity for us to show off. As such there are a number of NZInc activities and hospitality experiences on offer. Apparently, over 150 NZ companies have taken up the opportunity to be part of the NZInc hosting opportunity. Below I have mentioned the events/venues I have come across so far. Please let me know if you are aware of any others.
EMIRATES TEAM NEW ZEALAND BASE – Pier 30-32
Not only is the actual base here but you can also find a large 70m Waka (Maori canoe). It’s the same one that was used during the 2011 Rugby World Cup promo events. The cultural pavilion is expected to host ETNZ , ATEED and NZTE events that promote New Zealand, its history, business and tourism.
The organisers have employed the use of a New Zealand company to tell the story of NZ. STQRY’s technology uses QR codes from around the venue to digital online content.
A NZ Investment Technology Showcase will also take place on Sept 11th at the base. Here 11 Kiwi companies with interest in the US market will be pitching to 100+ of the regions top investors. Without seeing an actual list of events it seems like a number of industry specific showcases will also take place over September.
WAIHEKE ISLAND YACHT CLUB POP-UP RESTAURANT – Pier 29
It’s the only restaurant in the whole cup complex and features NZ’s best food and wine. The Moa Beer pop up is here too (below).
MOA BEER POP-UP BAR – Pier 29
WATER BAR – 399 The Embarcadero South (base of Pier 32)
Waterbar is being touted as the epicentre of business networking for NZ companies with weekly events happening there on Thursdays.
NZ at SF CHEFS
SF Chefs is a food festival taking place late July, early August in the middle of San Francisco (Union Square). Al Brown will be hosting a lunch on Aug 2 at The Westin St Francis hotel in addition to NZ products on display at the Grand Tasting Tent, Union Square, Aug 2-4th.
