Bits and Pieces

  • IRL produces a quarterly publication called Innovate. I only just picked up on it at the end of last year. Not only is it a great read to get an update on IRL’s projects and spin out ventures, it also offers a regular business article suitable for new high-tech ventures. This includes pieces such as financing new ventures and competing in a global market. Worth a look…
  • Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) – A week in November each year where there is a global movement to promote entrepreneurship while utilising social media to connect with other groups around the globe.  It seeks to  inspire young people to embrace innovation, imagination and creativity. This is typically through locally organised activities such as networking functions, seminars and workshops. Apparently a big deal was made of it last year considering we are the first country to hold a GEW event in the world due to the whole getting to see the sun rise first thing. However I barely heard anything about it last year. Despite the university being broken up for the year by then I am still keen to see the UoA get involved with the week in some way or another.

  • My favourite local blog bwagy by Ben Young offers readers small bits of high impact advice/ perspectives and unparalleled logic at only 23 years of age.  The 12hour start-up, a cool concept and one all businesses should be employing.
  • Made From New Zealand – One cool component to the site that has developed since I introduced it on here is its video content. 1- the video profiling of companies that have jumped on board but also 2 – the Friday Show, the weekly update about the activites of the madefromnewzealand community.
  • I have to admit a lot of the Web 2.0 businesses/services/applications popping up now tend not to register with me. Even facebook is starting to test my patience as we wait to see how they intend on cashing in on its community. The ones I do get excited about include those that utilise crowdsourcing effectively. Crowdspring is one of these. Simple yet an awesome concept.
